Every now and again a photographer encounters one of those magic situations when it all comes together, or maybe it is planned, like this one. Killing time in Bari (Italy) waiting a couple of days for a ferry to Croatia, we’d spent quite some time around the old port but the light was too harsh for any worthwhile photography. I decided to get up early the morning we were leaving and walk down to the port one final time. The fisherman were selling their catch on the pier, octopus, squid, starfish, fish and mussels, but there was a quiet peaceful air about the harbour. The sun wasn’t long up, the light was just perfect, a few white fluffy clouds to soften things, and the water was still. You could see the reflection of the clouds and the buildings in the water, there were lovely cameos everywhere. Each one led to another. In the series of photographs which follow, each image is linked to the next by a common element.
